Wonderful forest world

Do you know the refreshing feeling when you go for a walk in the forest when it's hot? Especially in summer, it's always pleasantly cool in the forest. This is because the trees get water from the forest floor through their roots. The water evaporates through the leaves and creates evaporative cooling, which keeps the temperature pleasantly cool. Forests are therefore natural air conditioning systems and air filters. Today we want to take a closer look at what else our forest can do 🙂 By the way, we support the German primeval forest with the new CARRY Bottle INTO THE WOODS.

Jungle in Germany?

When we hear the word jungle, we first think of the tropical rainforest with exotic animals and plant species in South America. Do you feel the same way? But you heard right, there are jungles all over the world - including in Germany. Unfortunately, only 1% of German forests are still natural jungles and 99% are shaped by humans.

What if..?

Without humans, 90% of Germany would be covered by forest, most of it mixed (beech) forest. But currently only a third of the area is forested - and that is mainly newly planted coniferous forest.

This is a problem, because mixed forests with old trees are a much better carbon store that is particularly resistant to the climate crisis. Around 2.5 billion tons of carbon are currently bound in wood and forest soil, and growing trees are constantly removing climate-damaging CO2 from the atmosphere.

Forests also function excellently in the local water cycle for cleaning and storing drinking water. This storage takes place primarily in the top 10 cm of the forest floor, as this is the layer richest in humus. Up to 50 liters per square meter are stored there. But again, this applies primarily to mixed forests, which produce 800,000 liters more available groundwater per hectare per year than coniferous forests.

This brings us back to our problem:We need less monoculture coniferous forest and more natural mixed forest! To achieve this, not only should new trees be planted, but above all existing forests should be preserved. These should grow freely and undisturbed. Because if the forest is left to itself, new plants can grow from old dead trunks, branches and leaves.

Conifers, especially spruces and pines, grow on more than half of Germany's land area. However, this type of tree is particularly sensitive to drought and has died on a large scale in recent years.

You want to change something about that?

Then we have just the right thing for you: TheCARRY Bottle INTO THE WOODSwith your jungle coordinates. For every bottle we donate 5€ for your m² of jungle, which will be preserved and permanently protected in Germany. 🎉
