A short walk for you, a big step for Germany: Climate strike on September 24th! This is how Fridays for Future announced this year's Global Climate Strike. Fridays for Future is now the largest youth movement in Germany and is supported by various alliances and associations. They stand for climate justice, a future worth living in and a fair and consistent climate policy. They say: We are here and we are loud - and we are not alone!
Last year, climate activists took to the streets with them in over 3,000 different locations around the world. It all started on August 20, 2018 with Greta Thunberg's “Skolstreik för klimatet” (“School strike for the climate”) - it has now become a global protest movement that not only brings young people onto the streets. Fridays For Future is a professional youth organization that has also spread to scientists with Scientists for Future and to older generations with Parents for Future . Strikes were registered for September 24 in 444 locations across Germany. Team CARRY was on the streets in Berlin - were you there too?
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Its consequences are felt every day. The devastating forest fires in California and Siberia, droughts here in Berlin or the major flood disaster in mid-July in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. And experts expect an increase in these extreme weather events in the coming years. That's why we have to change something, and quickly. We demonstrated on September 24th - we think it's important for companies in particular, because politicians often refer to the economy when it comes to more climate protection.
The demands of Fridays For Future
Especially with a view to the federal election last Sunday, Fridays For Future wanted to make a statement and make the climate the central issue of the election. FFF calls for fair climate protection and a future without a climate crisis. The major goals are to comply with the Paris Climate Agreement and to limit global warming to below 1.5° C. Their most important demands in Germany are therefore that- net zero will be achieved by 2035,
- the phase-out of coal by 2030 and
- the energy supply is 100% renewable by 2035.

According to the IPCC, our planet has already warmed by around 1°C since industrialization. The IPCC (often called the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) is the United Nations body that has been active since 1988 to assess the science related to climate change, its impacts, possible future risks and adaptation options. The motto is: Unite behind the science. Scientists agree that the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement cannot be achieved with the current climate protection measures! So it is high time to reduce our emissions and protect the environment. That is why we as Team CARRY were on the streets with many other people from all over the world. Of course, the demonstration was corona-compliant: always wear a face mask and keep a sufficient distance! #AllForTheClimate
Our contribution to CARRY
We at CARRY want to do our part by creating sustainable consumption opportunities and producing reusable products. We try to produce as regionally as possible. This way we keep our transport routes short and effective and reduce our emissions. Our CARRY Bottle is made from up to 80% recycled glass that comes from regional glass containers. In this way we reduce the use of primary raw materials and thereby reduce energy consumption in the glass melting process by around 20%.
We are a small team of 14 employees who, together with many others, are committed to a pretty big change. But we have all learned from Greta: you are never too small to make a difference! We started on Friday in front of the Bundestag with speeches by Fridays For Future and Omas for Future. The demonstration was split into different blocks in order to be able to keep a distance in accordance with Corona regulations. In Berlin alone, over 100,000 people were on the streets with us - 620,000 across Germany. Over 1,500 actions were registered worldwide. In Berlin, activists such as Greta Thunberg and Luisa Neubauer and artists such as Clueso and the rapper Nura were there. Greta Thunberg emphasized, among other things, the importance of Germany, as we rank 4th worldwide in terms of CO2 emissions. So it's time to change something - because we CARRY for our FUTURE!Here is a small collection of our favorite texts on demonstration signs:
- Spread love – not CO2!
- Climate is like beer, warm is shit!
- The planet is hotter than my boyfriend!
- The dinosaurs also thought they still had time!
- If you don't act like adults - we will!
- I'm so angry - I even made a sign!
What was on your demonstration sign and do you have any creative ideas for our next strike?
What each of us can do
Climate change affects almost all areas of our lives - including the consumer goods we buy. That's why we as a company see it as our responsibility to do our best. Team CARRY also conserves resources in their private lives: our motto is to consume consciously. For us, that means rethinking every purchasing decision and living a minimal lifestyle. But we can do more than just do without the car every now and then and take the train on vacation instead of flying. That's why we want to take action: together with you and many fellow campaigners and companies, we sent a huge signal for climate protection and against environmental pollution on Saturday.
But the most important thing is: every single step counts and every small improvement can lead to a big change. So let's fight this crisis! We CARRY for our future.
