From the CARRY Bottle to the CARRY Glass
How are the CARRY Glasses made?
The CARRY Glasses are particularly sustainable drinking glasses that are also super robust and unique. They are a true upcycling product , as they are made from our discarded CARRY Bottles with glass defects, which are then cut, ground and polished into glasses.
A regional and short supply chain is important to us. That's why we produce our glass bottles in southern Lower Saxony and have the discarded bottles cut into glasses in northern Bavaria. We share all information about the materials and the production process with you here :)
Mistakes are normal and even in the production of our CARRY Bottles, defects sometimes occur on the bottles. If the bottles are already printed, we sell them as B-stock. If the bottles are still unprinted and the defect is in the upper part of the bottle, we put them aside for further processing into our drinking glasses.
Our CARRY Glasses are true upcycling artists, made exclusively from our discarded bottles!
We send the CARRY Bottles with glass defects in the upper part of the bottle to a company in northern Bavaria, where the bottles are cut into glasses. To do this, the bottle is scratched at the predetermined breaking point and then blown open with gas. The resulting glasses are then simply ground and flamed and are ready for sale.
Our CARRY Glasses are really sustainable ! We save a lot of raw materials and energy during the production of the bottles by using recycled glass. The otherwise unused B-stock is then converted into glasses, which avoids waste and the re-melting of the faulty bottles. And the top halves of the bottles that are blown off are of course recycled directly on site 😊
In our production facility in Hehlen in southern Lower Saxony, we print the glass blanks and package and ship them from there.
We work closely with our partner company, which has built up outstanding expertise in printing over decades and also places an emphasis on sustainability in production.
We then sell the finished water glasses through our online shop, through retailers across Europe or with an individual label to companies.
From our office in Berlin we take care of all your concerns, sales and marketing. Our drinking glasses are super sustainable, robust and dishwasher safe - with these great functions and lovely designs, we want to inspire you to sustainability that brings joy.
If your CARRY Glass breaks, you can simply dispose of it in the glass recycling container. This way it will be added back to the glass cycle and new CARRYs can be created :)
Did you know that not all glass is the same? There are different types of glass and only soda-lime glass can be disposed of in the glass recycling containers. Everything else (window glass, borosilicate glass) cannot be recycled and belongs in the residual waste.

From waste product to CARRY Glass
More sustainability in everyday life
At CARRY Bottles we produce sustainable everyday products that are meant to bring you joy. With our products we want to support you in making changes in your life step by step. And not with frustration and sacrifice, but with joy 🌻
That's why we have expanded our product portfolio to include upcycled drinking glasses - which allow you to toast with friends in a sustainable way, entertain guests at home and share your favorite moments.
Why do we make glasses from bottles?
Quite simply: because it's super obvious. We often have drinking bottles with flaws in the upper part of the bottle, but which otherwise meet all of our quality requirements. And we wanted to expand our range with a great product that makes it even easier for you to live a sustainable everyday life.
The CARRY Glasses are the result of our existing waste, creative thinking, our wishes and our demands on new products. Hopefully they will convince you as much as they did us 😊
Upcycling our own waste
When producing our drinking bottles, we sometimes end up with bottles that have defects, for example glass defects in the upper part of the bottle. We asked ourselves how we could best use these B-stocks - because we didn't want to simply melt the glass bottles down again. This would mean that the material would be completely reused, but energy would have to be used again in the glass melting process.
We soon came up with the idea of cutting off the bottles and making glasses out of them - the resulting glasses are super sustainable and combine upcycling with recycling! Only very few production steps are required for upcycling into water glasses and the cut-off upper parts of the bottles can easily be recycled as waste glass.
So we found a great new use for our garbage 😊
Normalize B-goods and upcycling
At CARRY, we want to normalize flaws and imperfections. Because flaws and imperfections are unique and lovable. They make us who we are - both as people and as our products.
Upcycling products thrive on imperfections. They tell of a first life and have character. We love that and want to convey that with our upcycling glasses!
Fancy something new
We love our CARRY Bottles 💚 And we love glass. Because it's simply a great material with the best product properties. And since we wanted something new, we combined the two and designed the upcycling drinking glasses. We hope you like them as much as we do!
Why are the drinking glasses not always available?
Our CARRY Glasses are an upcycling product because they are made from our CARRY Bottles with glass defects.
How many bottles have a glass defect always depends on the quality of the new batch of bottle blanks. This means that our inventory of our upcycled drinking glasses also fluctuates and they can temporarily be completely sold out.
Few faulty bottles
If we have few or no faulty bottles in a raw glass delivery, we cannot cut new glasses. This can deplete our stock of water glasses.
Rare raw glass deliveries
We order the raw glass for our drinking bottles in large quantities (batches), which means that we rarely receive new deliveries. This means that we only have irregular supplies for our glasses.
Why do we use soda-lime glass?
Did you know that there are many different types of glass and that they are all suitable for different applications? Window panes, test tubes, wine bottles - different types of glass are used depending on the industry and requirements.
The conventional glass in the food industry is soda-lime glass - it is used for water, wine and beer bottles as well as jam jars. We also use soda-lime glass for our CARRY Bottles and CARRY Glasses!
Soda-lime glass is the most sustainable glass
The soda-lime glass consists mainly of quartz sand, lime and soda - and of old glass! In our case, from around 60% old glass shards that are collected from the region's glass containers and melted down again. This reduces the material consumption and the required melting temperature. This makes the soda-lime glass the most sustainable type of glass for drinking vessels 😊
In addition, the soda-lime glass can be recycled endlessly without losing its functionality. You can simply dispose of it in the conventional glass recycling containers.
Interesting Fact: The borosilicate glass, which is used for many other bottles, must not be recycled in the glass recycling container as it would contaminate the waste glass!
Soda-lime glass is robust & stable
The CARRY Bottles and CARRY Glasses are particularly robust and stable because we thought about stability right from the product design stage. The glass walls are relatively thick, the glass is stable and the shape is cast in one piece.
Our drinking bottles and drinking glasses can withstand even light impacts and have already given us some pleasant surprises when we drop them 😊 This means our products are also suitable for children.
Soda-lime glass is high quality
Sure, our glass bottles are comparatively heavy - but the soda-lime glass we use is also particularly robust and high-quality. The glass has a great feel and the weight means the bottle sits comfortably in your hand. You can immediately tell that our CARRY Bottles and CARRY Glasses are of high quality.
