DIY Lippenbalm

There are now a variety of natural, organic and sustainable lip care products on offer. The only problem is that these also need packaging and most of the time the high-quality products are not exactly affordable. Our good news for you: making your own lip care is much easier than you think! :)

With just a few basic ingredients you can create a great care product and then it's up to you to add special ingredients of your choice. This time we chose refreshing peppermint oil because it stimulates blood circulation to the lips on cold days. But there are no limits to your creativity.

You can also use the basic ingredients to make body lotion, face cream and some other DIY cosmetics. We therefore recommend using up all your cosmetic containers that are currently in use and saving them for the next DIY action. Have fun trying it out! :)

Ingredients

For a total of 20 ml

  • 5g organic carnauba wax
  • 15g organic shea butter
  • 15g organic coconut oil
  • 5 drops of peppermint essential oil (or an oil of your choice)
  • 4x 5ml jars (or other containers of your choice
  • 1 small pot, preferably with a watering trough
  • 1 spoon
  • If necessary, a small funnel

preparation

The preparation is much easier and less complicated than expected. The only "complicated" thing is that the lip balm naturally hardens when it cools and sticks to the pot or spoon, similar to wax. We therefore recommend using older kitchen utensils and soaking them in hot water immediately after use.

Clean the containers for the lip balm and all kitchen utensils thoroughly and, if possible, rinse them with boiling water so that no bacteria remain. Since no preservatives are used, we have to pay particular attention to hygiene.

Put the shea butter, coconut oil and carnauba wax in a pot and heat the ingredients slowly while stirring. This will create a slightly darker, homogeneous mass. Once you have this mass, you can turn off the stove and add the essential oil of your choice and stir well again.

It is best to place the storage containers on an old towel and carefully pour the mixture into them. This works best if you have a pot with a small indentation for pouring. Otherwise, you can also use a spoon or funnel. It is best to remove any drops on the edge immediately with a warm cloth.

Then you can unscrew the lids and put the lip balm outside or in the fridge to cool. After that, it will be relatively solid and you can take it with you anywhere.
