Why is drinking water healthy?

Warum ist Wasser trinken gesund?
Drinking water is necessary, environmentally friendly and, above all, healthy. Sunday is World Health Day and therefore the ideal time to summarize why drinking water is healthy for us.

"And how are you?"

"My head is pounding. I have a bad back. And I'm tired today too." We all know these sentences, or have at least heard them from friends, family members or work colleagues. Especially if you sit at your desk all day and stare at the screen nonstop, it's not unlikely that one of the sentences quoted above will come out of your own mouth. Headaches, back pain and tiredness are really not the best companions in everyday life and that's why some people sometimes make the trip to the doctor. In many cases, you could save yourself a trip to the waiting room. A healthy lifestyle helps against many symptoms such as headaches or tiredness and is easier than you think.

There are a huge number of options when it comes to living an active life and doing something good for yourself: As the saying goes, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” A bit more sport or yoga a week is good for our health. So is putting more vegetables and fruit on the shopping list (and eating them ;-) ) and drinking enough. Of course, this does not mean that a bit of exercise and a healthy diet are the miracle cure for all health problems. If you are not feeling well for a long time, a visit to the doctor is recommended. But let’s be honest: we all have one or two aches and pains and it is important to pull ourselves together. With a few resources and conscious decisions, we can feel really good. And the good thing about it is that it doesn’t always have to be big deeds. Small changes and rituals that you can incorporate into your everyday life are often enough.

Drinking water is healthy

Most mornings, I drink a big gulp of water right after I get up. And I prefer drinking my water straight from the tap and sometimes with a dash of lemon juice. Water just makes you fit. And that's why I have my Drinking bottle with water at hand. And on the way I have my favorite bottle almost always in your backpack. Water not only gives our body the fluid it needs, but also provides us with valuable minerals and trace elements. And in general, water is a real all-rounder.Tap water in particular is rich in minerals, in contrast to bottled water .

1. Water provides energy for the body

Whether we are active a lot or describe ourselves as a more leisurely type, there is hardly anything our body needs more than water. If we drink enough, we feel fit and full of energy. And this makes even the most difficult task seem much easier to solve.

2. Drinking water improves concentration

Nothing is more exhausting than not being able to concentrate. A short break to drink helps in two ways: time to breathe and time to refill your water tank. Our body cells are made of water and our brains therefore need more water than we think.

3. Water detoxifies and cools the body

With every sip of water or sugar-free herbal tea, we flush bad substances out of our body and keep ourselves healthy. Drinking water also helps our body adjust to a good temperature.

4. Water is a little beauty elixir

Those who drink enough water know what I'm talking about. You can apply as many beauty creams as you like from the outside, but if we don't create a base for them first, even the most expensive cream will have almost no effect. Water fills our cells from the inside. And you can see that.

But how much water should you drink per day?

An adult can drink around 1.5 liters a day. This includes water, unsweetened tea and fruit juice spritzers. When determining the amount, we need to consider what we do during the day. If we lace up our running shoes every day and run our kilometers on the asphalt, we can drink significantly more, especially when the temperatures outside are rising. On the other hand, if we sit in an air-conditioned office all day, we can drink a little less than recommended above. In general, it is better to listen to your thirst and drink when you are thirsty. We do forget about ourselves now and again when we are fully dedicated to one thing. Then we need a little reminder to drink. (There are tips on this in this article) . But our feelings rarely deceive us.
