And here we are again: Another year is almost over, faster than we could have imagined. Another crazy year full of surprises, challenges, sadness and joy. Once again we ask ourselves: Where has the time gone?
2021 has presented us with many unfamiliar situations. We were confronted with ourselves, with uncertainty and thoughts about the future. With incomprehension and doubt, but also a lot of love, strength and solidarity. During all this time, the importance of mental health has received more and more attention. In private circles at work, but also from health insurance companies and the WHO . And in this context, the topics of mindfulness, meditation and yoga are also attracting more and more interest. The corona pandemic, with its far-reaching impacts on mental health, has led people to take their emotional and psychological well-being more seriously and to want to live more in the here and now using various methods.
But what does it mean to “live more in the here and now”? That sounds like it’s something special to live in the moment and take it as it comes.
Unfortunately, it is true that it is often not the normal state to be "in the here and now". Rather, it is a state that deviates from everyday life and only sometimes appears in the midst of the hustle and bustle. Does this apply to you? Don't worry! We know this very well ourselves. ;)
That's why we try to give more space to the here and now through meditation, journaling, conscious eating, yoga and sport. To train the mind to be conscious even in everyday situations. And admittedly: Doing this alongside university, work, family, relationships, pandemic and everyday life is hard work. But the effect justifies every effort! :)
And why are we telling you this?
You're probably wondering why we're sharing our findings about being connected to the here and now. We don't want to give you any tips for being more mindful in your everyday life today. There are already more than enough of those (not just on our blog ). This article is intended to be a reminder that we're not talking about climbing Mount Everest, running a marathon, or getting a bachelor's degree. It's about an enriching attitude to life and the active decision to experience every moment consciously. With the realization that the here and now is the only thing you have for sure in this moment.
Mindfulness as a path
So the benchmark should not be to find a few minutes in your everyday life for mindfulness, to "make room" or to make sacrifices elsewhere in order to get closer to this state. It is not just a plan that gets a little attention alongside all the other New Year's resolutions. Being mindful should not be the goal, but the path and thus a fundamental attitude to life.
How much do you prioritize “being in the moment” in your everyday life? How much do you live off the memories, sorrows and joys of the past and the worries and dreams of the future? When do you actually live in the moment?
We wish you with all our hearts that you can take this thought with you into the new year and turn the obligation and strenuous efforts to be more mindful into a joyful and easy matter of course in your life. That “living in the moment” becomes the norm and everything else the exception.
If you also want to live more mindfully in 2022, then our competition in cooperation with urbestself could be something for you. Their 6-minute diary will help you easily establish more mindfulness, motivation, self-love, serenity and personal growth. The manual is based on scientific findings and those of positive psychology. Of course, it was created with a lot of passion and produced in Germany in a climate-neutral way. 🌱🌍 Check out our Instagram channel ! :)
